When you say “meaningful summer experiences” what does that mean? Is it important for these juniors to do internships this summer? Volunteer?
Laura Bergquist

Are subject tests still valued in the process?

If a school is test optional, what is the benefit for submitting your scores? Is there more scholarship money if your test scores are high?
Alison Hoste

If so many schools are optional for submitting test scores, is it still recommended to take the ACT/SAT?
Mr Tony Minestra
01:14:20
Laura - at a very small handful of schools - uber selectives - they can play a roll, albeit a small one. Between last year and this year, I don't know that any of our students took or submitted them at all.

Meaningful experiences vary by student - could be full time work, could be an internship/shadow experience, could be taking an online course...really being active as opposed to passive, disconnected. Doing things that students LOVE and being able to tell that story and stay energized.

Are both the SAT and the ACT recommended?
Mr Tony Minestra
01:19:48
We recommend that students still take the ACT/SAT, and do their best - ultimately it offers flexibility. Best thing about T.O. - the student is in control - they choose if they use it or not. But T.O. certainly releases the pressure that existed in the test-necessary world.

ACT and SAT are similar these days (4 sections, with writing) although differ in content and pacing. It's best to find out which one works for the student and to stay in that lane. Prepping for both will burn kids out for sure.

Hi. Question. Is anyone else having a grabber reading this power point? Asking for a friend. Thanks.

You've indicated that letters of recommendation and transcripts are submitted through Naviance. Are you, as counselors, responsible for the mechanics of those submissions? If not, who is? How and to whom should students communicate the need to transmit transcripts and letters of recommendation? Thanks.
Mr Tony Minestra

My daughter gets a lot of contacts from colleges. What has triggered that? And, given some of the schools, should I assume that they looked at grades, PSAT, etc?

So how much importance should we put on the mail?
